Lookout tower Stepanka
The stone neo-Gothic lookout tower Stepanka on the Hvezda hill (959 m.a.s.l.) on the Prichovice ridge is the oldest lookout tower in the Jizera Mountains. The name is reminiscent of Archduke Stephen, who stayed here while supervising the construction of the Krkonose Road.
Construction of the lookout tower began as early as 1847, but construction activity soon ceased and the entire construction was not completed until 1892. During the completion, a slender octagonal tower made of a combination of bricks and sandstone was added to the lower 6 meters part. The height of the lookout tower is 24 meters and the view from it is really beautiful. From here you can see the western Giant Mountains, the Desna and Kamenice valleys, the scattered development of mountain cottages up to the Sous dam and the Jizera mountain in the background.
There is traditionally a wooden snack bar near the lookout tower, and a stone table with a bench at its entrance is also interesting. Behind the tower are the ruins of a stone war cross, which was supposed to be a symbolic site of the local Nazis during World War II.
